HI. Guys. Have you come across or heard several times where a mechanic or consultant says “have to scan and see “ or “ need to do a scan “ whenever your vehicle comes across a complicated issue or when the famous “ check light “ comes ON.
Well, that is way of communicating with your vehicle with a hand held device/ laptop and it’s computer. The present day vehicles uses the On- Board Diagnostics II (OBD- II) to access the vehicle’s computer for various tasks and diagnosis such as emission readings, identifying faults or system check.
The access point to that computer or ECU is through the OBD- II port located in different places based on the make and model. There are three generations of OBD ports, OBD 1, OBD –II (OBD 2) and OBD 3.
