Has this happen to you, where suddenly all the main warning lights mainly consisting of Yellow colour appeared from no where but still able to drive. Well this has happened to several users in our circle and had to investigate it.
Firstly took it to for a test drive and gave a good run down on the vehicle specially the braking system since most of the warning lights are related as the main source is the brake system. Brakes were there but the assist was out of proportion and also the ABS didn't operate as usual. Vehicles equipped with TCS and hybrid the handling and the regeneration were not functioning respectively. Finally plugged in the scanner to see if the vehicle can tell us something.
As usual no straight fault code but when analyzing the readings noticed that the ABS system has malfunctioned. Some vehicles the electronic circuit had failed where else some its either the hydraulic or mechanical components. In this case it's a Nissan X-trail hybrid.
Had no choice but to go for a full replacement of the complete ABS pump since definitely that was the cause and also not reliable upon repairing.
Well that cleared all matters and now the vehicles are back on the road due to their usual rounds with safety. For the vehicles that had TCS the cornering and handling improved drastically and hybrid, the regeneration was at full efficiency. This shows that nowadays the ABS pump does much more than bringing the vehicle to a stop without skidding.
Contaminated brake fluid
Please note that the brake fluid also plays a major part in all this. Its recommended that the fluid is flushed and replaced every 2 years or at least every 35,000 kms. If the colour of the fluid is not clear then it should be done immediately. One of the main reasons for these pumps to fail is due to the contamination in the fluid due its constant use.
What is ABS?
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) comes as a standard safety feature in all modern vehicles these days. It prevents the wheels from locking up and helps them maintain grip with the road below. ABS was first introduced as an anti-skid system for aircraft use in the 1950s.
Dismantled ABS pump motor at our workshop
Since lately the ABS is been utilised for traction control and anti collision control which plays a major part in providing assistance to the driver for road handling and safety.
